The aging Lord of the Elder of Kyujitsu Island has lost his grip, setting off a chain reaction: Land Spirits are raging, Kazan Mountain threatens to erupt, and Shimo Mountain's snowfall grows worse by the day. Four clans — Kusa, Mizu, Netsu, and Yuki — have failed to restore order. A descendant of Shison Village is chosen to become the next Keishou-sha, the Lord of the Elder, by making the journey across the unstable island, confronting rival Clan Leaders, uncovering the Path of Ascension, and stopping the shadow Clan Kurai from exploiting the chaos.
