Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom

Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom

Released1988
Despite the defeat of Trebor, Werdna, and L'kbreth, dark times once again threaten the kingdom of Llylgamyn. So once again a party of adventurers must venture forth to vanquish the evil. Wizardry V represents a complete revision of the gaming system used in the first four installments, with larger mazes, new spells and character classes, and an expanded system for combatting and interacting with creatures. It is also the first game in the series that allows, but does not require characters imported from a previous scenario.

About This Game

Generations have passed since legendary heroes brought the mystical Orb of Earithin to Llylgamyn, and while those heroes have long since vanished, the artifact's transformative power revolutionized the kingdom's entire magical tradition. After centuries of stability, darkness creeps back across the land—strange weather ravages the realm, plague sweeps through the populace, and the High Council's investigations reveal a catastrophic truth: reality itself is tearing apart at the seams. Beneath the Brotherhood's temple lies the Maelstrom, a labyrinthine cavern system harboring a devastating magical vortex at its core, and within that vortex lies the imprisoned Gatekeeper, a demi-god whose duty is to maintain the balance between worlds. The High Council's scrying unveils a terrible betrayal: a renegade Brother called the Sorn has deliberately engineered this rift, seeking to birth a new universe governed by chaos and obliterate existence as it is known. With the vortex expanding daily and the Gatekeeper powerless to stop it, two of the realm's mightiest sages—Fontizan and Yeldarb—issue a desperate call for adventurers brave or foolish enough to descend into those cursed depths, confront the Sorn, free their imprisoned guardian, and prevent the annihilation of all reality.
