Tom Sawyer no Bouken

Tom Sawyer no Bouken

Released1989
The original Japanese version of Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The level order has been changed in the English version (perhaps to avoid confusing players by starting with the rafting stage). The Japanese original's level 5, the pirate ship, is the English version's level 1, making the beginning of the game much more difficult and the plot non-cohesive.

About This Game

Tom Sawyer awakens in his Missouri classroom with a single mysterious feather on his desk—an artifact that belonged to the notorious Injun Joe—but he cannot quite shake the vivid recollection of the harrowing adventure he just experienced. In what may have been a dream or something far more tangible, Tom traversed six treacherous stages to reach and rescue Becky from Injun Joe's clutches, battling grotesque adversaries along the way including a colossal octopus, a mammoth alligator lurking in the Mississippi River, spectral entities haunting an abandoned mansion, and a fearsome dragon. The ambiguity between nightmare and reality lingers as Tom sits in his familiar schoolroom, forced to contemplate whether his extraordinary ordeal was merely the product of his sleeping mind or whether it actually transpired.
