Uridium

Released1986
Uridium (released on the NES as The Last Starfighter) is a science fiction side-scrolling shoot 'em up originally designed by Andrew Braybrook for the Commodore 64, and later ported to other 8-bit machines. It consists of fifteen levels, each named after a metal element, with the last level being called Uridium (a fictional metallic element, not to be confused with the real metallic element iridium). The manual quotes Robert Orchard, who invented the name as saying "I really thought it existed".

About This Game

A sprawling occupation has gripped the solar system as massive alien warships establish themselves in orbit above fifteen planets, systematically harvesting valuable minerals from each world's core to power their interstellar engines. Piloting an advanced Manta-class fighter, you must confront this threat head-on by traveling from planet to planet to neutralize each imposing Super-Dreadnought. Every mission follows a relentless sequence: first clearing away waves of enemy interceptors protecting each station, then eliminating enough ground installations to secure a landing approach, touching down on the vessel's runway, and extracting critical fuel cells from the dreadnought's conversion systems before launching a devastating final assault as the massive ship ruptures and disintegrates.
