About This Game

In the earliest days of the age of darkness — recorded only in the most ancient manuscripts — there lived a world born of mystic arts and old sorcery: Sosaria. Despite its enchanted origins, Sosaria's people shunned magic, for its very use corrupted the souls of the careless. But one man dared to awaken the slumbering powers of alchemy: Mondain the Wizard, who bent the awesome power of the Gem of Immortality to his will and bound all of Sosaria to his corruption. His dominion was absolute, the whole planet locked in his cruel grip — until a stranger appeared. No one knew where he came from, but his strength and courage were without equal, and in him lay Sosaria's only hope. Only a traveler from the stars could break Mondain's stranglehold, and he proved himself a savior by shattering the Gem of Immortality and defeating the wizard. Yet a deeper, more sinister evil was loosed by the Gem's destruction, for Sosaria was never truly freed of the stone's power. Even shattered on the floor of Mondain's castle, the planet remained bound to the Jewel's magic — and within each broken shard dwelled a perfect likeness of Sosaria. This is the world in which you are born, live, and die: Britannia, once Sosaria, now existing as a thousand worlds, each with its own peoples, history, and destiny. And this Britannia is but one of many in the multiverse that is Ultima Online.
