The Sims 2: University introduces a new "Young Adult" life stage along with a "College Town" setting built around the hopes and anxieties of that age. When Sims finish their teenage years, they can now leave home for a dorm room at the university; first-year students are required to live in the dorms, but those who do well can eventually move into off-campus housing. The dorm rooms themselves are small and uniform, yet the dorms teem with NPC characters who offer all sorts of companionship — study partners, friends, rivals, and love interests alike — and once a Sim has found their footing they may opt for a place of their own or a shared group house, funding the extra rent through a part-time job or a bit of pool hustling at the local hangout. The expansion leans into the social side of college life as much as the academic: sorority and fraternity houses make ideal venues for wild parties when stocked with the right objects, from the "Juice Barrel" for inverted chug-a-lugs to the contemplative "Bubble Blower," and Sims can blow off steam with pillow fights, toga parties, jam sessions, foot-bag circles, and even naked streaking runs. As in real life, working and playing hard can open new doors — diligent students earn an extra "want" slot and a one-time chance to change their life aspiration, and those who keep their sanity and study hard eventually graduate into full adulthood, unlocking fresh career paths like "paranormal," "science," and "show biz," each crowned by its own ultimate reward object.
