Gears of War

Gears of War

Released2006
Gears of War is a third-person shooter built around a cover system, where players duck behind obstacles and use tactical fire to advance on enemies. The signature weapon is an assault rifle fitted with a chainsaw bayonet, and a timed reload mechanic can grant a brief damage bonus or jam the gun if mistimed. The five-act campaign can be played solo or in two-player co-op, and a competitive multiplayer mode supports up to eight players split between the two factions. It was the first game in the Gears of War series and helped popularize the modern cover-based shooter, later receiving remastered versions.

About This Game

Across the war-torn world of Sera, humanity scrambles for survival after an ancient subterranean civilization called the Locust Horde emerges to wage systematic extermination. Years of conflict over the planet's precious underground resource, Imulsion, have already fractured society, but the sudden invasion forces the ruling Coalition of Ordered Governments into a fight for existence itself. Marcus Fenix, a disgraced soldier pulled from prison by his longtime friend Dominic Santiago, finds himself thrust back into combat as part of Delta Squad with a singular objective: venture deep into enemy tunnels and strike at the Locust stronghold before humanity's last defenses crumble. What unfolds is a desperate military campaign against an overwhelming alien threat, where Marcus must confront both external horrors and the ghosts of his own past.
