On Tatsumi Port Island, a seemingly ordinary Japanese high school conceals a nightmarish secret: each midnight, the world enters the Dark Hour, a hidden timespan where ordinary citizens transform into coffins and lose all memory of the occurrence, while the school itself morphs into Tartarus, a sprawling dungeon crawling with Shadows—otherworldly entities that feed on human consciousness. A clandestine student organization called SEES has taken up arms against this nightly horror, discovering that select individuals can remain aware during the Dark Hour and summon powerful inner manifestations known as Personas to battle the creatures. When a transfer student enrolls at Gekkoukan High School, he becomes entangled in SEES's covert war against an encroaching darkness that threatens to consume the waking world.
