In 1993, a project run by MASSNET gave two extraordinary people—Grey and Violet—the ability to see encrypted virtual data as if it were physically present in the air around them: passwords, messages, images, all traveling as electromagnetic signals that most people cannot perceive. They use this ability to run an anonymous website where clients from around the world hire them for jobs involving other people's data. The CEO of MASSNET still believes the project was a failure and has no idea either of them exists. A story about two people who operate in full view of the world while remaining completely invisible to it.
