Hayato Isurugi is the apprentice of a Spiritualist — a practitioner who uses the mysterious power called Spiritshine to exorcise demons — and his days at Shinwa Academy have been calm and pleasant. Part-time work making charms, easygoing conversations with friends, a gift he has been quietly planning for his older sister. Then an unexpected attack throws the Academy into chaos. Hayato is fatally injured trying to protect his friends. At the moment of death, he meets Magatsu — the incarnation of an evil spirit sealed by his ancestors a thousand years ago, now appearing in the form of a young woman. She offers him a deal: free her, and she will give him the strength to survive. He accepts. The glistening days of youth begin under different terms.
