The Finnish War

While the Napoleonic Wars reshaped Europe, a smaller conflict played out in the far north that drew little attention at the time. In the territory that would become Finland, the Finnish War unfolded between the Kingdom of Sweden and a Russian force pushing into difficult and unforgiving terrain. The stories that came out of it — the battles, the individuals who fought them — were unlike what was happening anywhere else on the continent.
