Kei had a plan: a famous high school, medical school following his parents' footsteps. Then something happened, and he stepped out for a term. Now he studies part-time, and the world he is encountering in that new context — people and circumstances he would never have met on the original trajectory — has started to make him question what he actually wants. A short story he wrote won a city-wide competition. The president of a music production company named Yagihara took notice and asked Kei to accompany the band Kachoufuugetsu on their upcoming tour and write about it. The band's leader, Korekiyo, speaks about music as if it is pointless and good for nothing. Then Kei hears them play for the first time and cannot account for what that experience does to him. A few days later, the band announces they are breaking up. Kei goes to Korekiyo repeatedly to argue against it. Nothing works. Korekiyo has a different question instead: 'How about you play rock in my place?'
