Set in the period between FNaF3 and FNaF6, you play as the Mechanic — a trusted friend of Phone Dude and the person responsible for the robotics side of Fazbear's Fright. A call sends you into the burning building to save the real one. What you carry out of the fire is, without your knowing it, the charred remains of William Afton. Back at your workspace, you attempt to restart the rabbit's systems. This is when Afton makes himself known — transferring his consciousness to your tablet screen, speaking through it, telling you about remnant and the possibility of eternal life, or of bringing back those you have already lost. You agree to rebuild him. He sends you to four locations from across the FNaF universe to collect remnant from the last active animatronics still hosting a soul. The story is non-linear: the order you play the levels and the lore you find changes what Afton tells you about his past, his relationship with Henry Emily, and the full history of Fazbear Entertainment. Every playthrough reveals something different.
