Life in the Sámi village runs on its own seasonal rhythms, and an accident at the local Tar-Burning Pit has disrupted all of them. A strange disease has begun spreading from the pit outward — affecting the land, the animals, and the people living among them. Áilu is a young Sámi herder out searching for a reindeer doe that wandered off. The search leads to an old enchanted drum called the Goavddis, and the discovery of it begins unwinding the mystery of what the accident released. The infected are running out of time. The knowledge of the traditional healers — the Noaidis — has been lost for generations. But the drum is still carrying it.
