Raisond'etre

A woman arrives at a church deep in the mountains that has been serving as an orphanage, and she cannot clearly account for why she is there. Every night, the smell of death permeates the building. The children die, one by one, for reasons no one inside the church will explain — or perhaps cannot explain. She remains alive. Whether that is coincidence or design, and what distinguishes her from the others, are the questions the story is built around.
