The kingdom of Golas flourished for generations under King Maphoteusus, who ruled with care for both his people and the natural world. Then a mysterious stranger appeared at the market with a box of unknown fruit — impossibly delicious, and poisonous. Tens of thousands fell ill. Thousands died. Every alchemist and physician in the kingdom tried and failed to find a cure. Hope arrived in the form of Magiterra, a healer from a distant people, who listed the ingredients for a potion that could treat the disease. It worked. The kingdom healed. Magiterra returned home. Years later, trade has collapsed, the treasury is empty, and famine is approaching. The aging king picks up a pen and writes to his old friend one more time.
