For centuries, a cavern at the heart of the Myre was sealed and forgotten. When a fissure finally split it open, the prison it once was became an exit. The demons within — called Yokai — had been entombed there by ancient Samurai whose warnings had long since faded to whisper. Now free and hungry after their long confinement, the Yokai began possessing the Samurai who remained. Motoori watched his companions change: babbling, bending wrongly, their eyes going pale. By the time of the massacre at Temple Garden, the possession was complete. Motoori learned of the Mamono Dagger — a mythical blade that can trap Yokai spirits — and shared the knowledge with the survivors. The dagger can do what is needed. But it bears a terrible cost, and no one who wields it is left uncut.
