Something happened to Ivan, and whatever it was, it closed him off from everyone and everything around him. His mother, at a loss for how to help, brings in a psychologist named Dr. Alexander. Learning that Ivan loves storytelling, Dr. Alexander proposes narrative therapy: each session, they will build a story together — a way for Ivan to explore his real pain without confronting it directly. The character Ivan creates, Vain, becomes his alter ego. Two narrative streams unfold in parallel: the quiet, probing conversations between Ivan and Dr. Alexander, and the expanding adventure of Vain — a key to understanding the boy who imagined him.
