Having faked his own death to protect his foster children, the legendary former yakuza Kazuma Kiryu now lives in the shadows, his identity erased. Bound by a pact with the secretive Daidoji faction, he operates as one of their covert agents under the codename "Joryu", carrying out assignments in exchange for anonymous support of the orphanage he holds dear. Between jobs, he seeks quiet moments of meditation, trying to leave his violent past behind. But that fragile peace cannot last. When Kiryu is tasked with providing security for a smuggling operation in Yokohama, the job turns out to be a trap, as an unidentified group of yakuza ambushes the agents.
