In Japan's Sengoku period, a mysterious phenomenon has taken hold of the Kanto region: crimson leaves that bloom and fall endlessly, regardless of season. The era comes to be called Kowa. A small cult has formed around worshipping the crimson leaves. Now, in the 18th year of Kowa, the lives of people struggling through this harsh world begin to intersect — and the end of an era approaches.
