The Hayseed Knight follows Ader — a one-eyed farmboy with impossible dreams who somehow becomes the most celebrated knight in the kingdom of Acazhor. The story is told by two unreliable narrators: an old friend who could not bear to let history misremember Ader, and Lin, a self-proclaimed descendant of the Knight who reads the whole thing as steamy fanfiction. Drawn from 16th-century picaresque tradition, it is a satire of knightly tropes featuring a protagonist who lies his way into legend and never tells a complete truth.
