The San Lucas psychiatric hospital opened in 1985 with the stated purpose of treating mental illness. In 2035, it became the site of a documented series of disappearances and unexplained deaths. The staff worked to suppress what was happening. When police were eventually called in, they found evidence of illegal medical experimentation: drugs administered without consent, surgeries performed on patients who had not agreed to them, and a series of other violations severe enough to result in immediate closure and criminal prosecution. The patients who survived were moved to appropriate facilities for treatment. San Lucas was sealed and abandoned. Its reputation has grown into local legend — the kind of place that people avoid and talk about, and that some believe still has people in it who have not been found.
