Across the continent of Tikal, where limestone temples rise above steaming jungle and sacred white causeways connect the great city-states, an ancient barrier has begun to fail. Centuries ago, stone-cutters breached the Underworld itself, unleashing the Gnawing Dark into the realm's caverns before the rupture could be sealed; now that barrier weakens, and supernatural threats spill forth once more. Trolls infest the eastern caves, wolves prowl beyond the settlements, and orc armies gather on the northern frontier, forcing the city-states to abandon their fragile peace and seek capable warriors. Adventurers arriving from the villages of Mayahuel and Cobá must journey the sacred white roads to Yaxalún, the maize-city, where they will pledge themselves to one of four paths—Jaguar Knight, Eagle Paladin, Sky Sorcerer, or Jade Druid—before being sent into the darkness to confront whatever hungers there.
