Alone in the Dark

Released1992
Alone in the Dark is one of the first survival horror games and the first to utilize 3D models superimposed on pre-rendered backgrounds, which would become a key inspiration for upcoming horror games at the time, like the Resident Evil franchise. The player can use various weapons, such as pistol, rifle, swords and knives, though it is possible to kill most enemies with melee attacks. Some opponents can be beaten by solving a particular puzzle, while a significant number of opponents cannot be killed at all or only with certain weapons.

About This Game

In 1920s Louisiana, a wealthy man's mysterious death at a remote plantation draws two investigators into a nightmare of supernatural horror. Players alternate between Edward Carnby, a hardened detective, and Emily Hartwood, the deceased's determined relative, as they probe the circumstances surrounding Jeremy Hartwood's apparent suicide at Derceto Manor—an isolated estate nestled deep within the bayou and whispered to harbor dark, otherworldly forces. What begins as an inquiry into a tragic death quickly spirals into something far more sinister, forcing both protagonists to confront the mansion's malevolent secrets and the supernatural evil that may have driven Jeremy to his doom.
