Soldiers of Fortune

A temporal accident strands a future traveler in Victorian England, and when his advanced technology falls into the hands of Baron Fortesque, an ambitious scientist of the Royal Society, it sets off a chain of catastrophic events. Fortesque reverse-engineers the alien machinery into increasingly powerful inventions, culminating in the Chaos Engine—a reality-warping device capable of manipulating matter, space, and time itself. The Engine transcends its creator's control, absorbs Fortesque into its being, and transforms the British countryside into a nightmarish landscape of twisted automata, grotesque creatures, and resurrected prehistoric horrors. As Britain descends into isolated chaos, the royal family and countless refugees flee across the sea, leaving the island quarantined and the world economy in turmoil. This catastrophe attracts a diverse band of mercenaries, each seeking fortune and glory by venturing into the ravaged nation to uncover the source of the devastation and destroy it before darkness consumes everything.
