Rather than presenting puzzles in a fixed sequence, Arle no Roux places Arle Nadja in a hub world where she approaches characters to receive challenges. Each character offers a randomized selection from their own pool of puzzles, and clearing enough of any character's puzzles counts as defeating that challenger. A health system tied to Arle's facial expression—a nod to the Madou Monogatari series—tracks failures: too many in a row leads to a Game Over. Level Ups restore health fully.
