About This Game

The Super Nintendo adaptation of The Lord of the Rings begins with Frodo Baggins alone and gradually assembles the Fellowship around him—Samwise, Pippin, Merry, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf all join as the game progresses. With the Super Multitap accessory, up to eight players can participate simultaneously. The story progresses through the Shire, Bree, Rivendell, and the Mines of Moria in a series of fetch quests, with the game's climax being the fight with the Balrog—ending the story considerably earlier than the book does. Characters who die are gone permanently for the rest of the run, and the planned sequel covering the remainder of the story was never produced due to poor sales.
