In 2013, LAPD officer Jonathan Ingram was among five Policenauts—police officers trained for astronaut duty—assigned to protect Beyond Coast, humanity's first self-sustaining space colony. A spacesuit malfunction sent him drifting into the void, presumed dead. He was recovered twenty-five years later, preserved by the suit's cryogenic system.
Now in 2040, Jonathan works as a private investigator in Old Los Angeles. When his former wife Lorraine visits asking him to find her missing husband Kenzo Hojo—leaving behind only a torn leaf, some capsules, and the word "Plato" as clues—he is reluctant to take the case. Minutes after she leaves his office, she is shot and killed. Jonathan heads to Beyond Coast, reconnects with his old LAPD partner Ed Brown—now a BCPD Vice chief—and begins unraveling a conspiracy that leads through Tokugawa Pharmaceuticals all the way to former Policenauts Gates Becker and Joseph Tokugawa. The investigation exposes an illegal drug and organ trafficking ring built to counteract the physiological toll of long-term space habitation.
