Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu he... begins in the castle town of Aliahan, a medieval kingdom of knights and mages. The protagonist assembles a party and sets out across a world whose geography closely mirrors real-world Earth — many locations correspond to actual cultures and places, including Romaly for Rome, Portoga for Portugal, Assaram near present-day Iraq, Jipang for Japan, and a New Town in eastern North America undergoing a revolution against an overbearing ruler. Dungeons, ruins, and castles punctuate the journey as the party works through the continent toward the confrontation that will determine the world's fate — and the legend that will outlast it.
