The military's instruments register an energy signature far larger than anything on record. The source becomes clear within moments: one of the colonies around Mars has just been destroyed. Then another. Then all of them, picked apart by beam cannons launched from unknown aerial forces before anyone on Earth can mount a response. Some observers had anticipated a threat from the entity later identified as the Zanskull Empire—but not one this overwhelming, this fast. With conventional defense seemingly futile, the only remaining option is to buy time and steal the enemy's technology. They place a call to one man and ask him to go to Earth. Meanwhile, a UFO tracks a course toward Japan.
