Iridine is a city whose origins have passed beyond history into myth—raised, according to ancient belief, as a monument to the sun god Ereal's victory over the eclipsing moons. It stands as civilization's beacon in the world of Midlight, though that beacon flickers constantly. Thieves move through its crowded streets; bandits haunt the surrounding swamps and forests; and the Cinerans press at its borders, held in check only by the vigilance of the Legio. No one can say who built the Harbor of the Moons, or exactly when Moonfall first struck—those roiling purplish-black storms that consumed the countryside in silence and scattered Iridine's people to every corner of Midlight. What the sages now warn is this: the veil separating life from death grows thinner by the day, and Ravan—the ancient Comforter of the Dead—has descended into madness. He walks the heavens once more, searching for a way to bring the ruin of Moonfall back to Midlight.
