Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, raised by an evil witch who keeps her isolated. Her only company is some birds and a magic mirror. Prince Galen passes below and asks for water; he climbs up, and his visits become regular — their friendship developing into something the witch eventually notices and punishes. Her response is a curse on the prince: he will wander forever, unable to return to any place he has already been. He cannot come back to the tower. The only thing that can break the curse is a kiss from Rapunzel. Since he cannot return to her, Rapunzel cuts her hair into a rope, climbs down, and goes to find him.
