Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev arrive in the remote town of Dorutohaut after a summons from the local sorcerers' guild. The guild director explains: a stolen church amulet needs recovering, and two individuals impersonating Lina and Gourry have already passed through and muddied the record. Naga the Serpent is identified as the long-haired sorceress who accompanied the impostors. The recovery job expands when priest Robert reveals the amulet's true purpose: it opens five sealed towers built by the legendary sorcerer Rei Magnus. The journey draws in Zelgadis, Amelia, Sylphiel, and Lark from the first game, while Naga pursues her own agenda, a woman named Alicia repeatedly blocks the path, and the two impostors complicate everything at every turn.
