Baldur's Gate

Candlekeep is an ancient fortress on the rural Sword Coast, long since transformed into a great library where scholars can study in peace. Of late, though, strange and troubling events have disturbed its quiet, as unknown mercenaries try to breach its walls — all in pursuit of one seemingly ordinary young orphan, raised within Candlekeep as his own child by the mage Gorion. One night, Gorion resolves to spirit his ward away to safety, but as they slip out of the fortress they are ambushed by assassins. The orphan escapes; Gorion does not. With Candlekeep's gates sealed against the mysterious attackers, only Imoen — another of Gorion's wards, and like a sister to the protagonist — is willing to follow into the unknown. With nothing to their names and a vast, hostile world before them, a long and perilous journey begins. A role-playing game built on the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rule set and set in the Forgotten Realms, Baldur's Gate opens the saga by letting players roam towns, wilds, and dungeons, take on countless side quests, and gather companions along the way. You craft your hero by choosing a class — fighter, thief, mage, priest, ranger, or druid, including dual- and multi-class options — along with alignment and weapon proficiencies. Up to six characters can fight together in real-time battles that can be paused at any moment to issue precise commands, with party formation and positioning playing a crucial role.
