Machines is a real-time strategy game set across three-dimensional terrain where hilltops matter for tactical positioning and first-person perspective can be toggled for scouting and espionage. Players build and research from a roster of 50 distinct units across two tech trees — plasma-based and projectile-based — each available in a range of locomotion types: spider legs, wheels, tracks, hover engines, flight, and bipedal walking. Beyond standard combat, sabotage and espionage missions allow units to infiltrate enemy facilities, plant mines inside buildings, steal research data, and relay intelligence back to base. An arsenal of 25 weapons rounds out the options, from flame-throwers and mini-guns to ion cannons, vortex singularities, and nukes.
