About This Game

F.A.K.K.² — short for Federation-Assigned Ketogenic Killzone to the second level — is the name of both the heroine, Julie, and her homeworld. Before the game opens, Julie has already slain the tyrant and self-styled god Lord Tyler (in the events of Heavy Metal 2000) and led the remnants of her people to a planet called Eden. There the survivors made a remarkable discovery: the planet's waters grant eternal life to those who drink them. They built a rural paradise, pasturing large bull-like "creepers" and living in peace. To stay hidden from any threat, Eden is disguised by a FAKK2 beacon that makes it appear a biohazard-ravaged wasteland. But a being named Gith — seen only as a disembodied cybernetic head — runs a hyper-corporation, Gith Industries, whose "employees" are little better than slaves. Traveling the universe in a ship built from three-quarters of a planet, Gith is bound for a place called Na'ChThraThull, the "place of the soft machines," which turns out to be Eden itself. When a barrage of explosive asteroids brings down the planet's shield, Gith's monstrous workforce invades: giant mosquitoes and their queen the Vymish Mama, skinless bearlike Grawlix, dart-spitting plants, flesh-eating flora, and Gith's cybernetic Fleshbinders and Soul Harvesters. With help from the gunsmith Otto and other citizens, Julie fights through besieged Eden to reset the shield — in vain — then crosses the swamps to reach Gruff, who opens the path to the Temple of the We. After overcoming the four challenges of the We, she enters the final temple housing the Heart of the We, only to find Gith waiting. He steals the Heart and uses it to revive Lord Tyler so he can take his revenge on Julie. Julie kills Tyler again and reclaims the Heart, banishing Gith — but on returning to town she learns that her pregnant sister has been abducted. Gith reappears aboard a colossal space station, leaving the door open for a sequel.
