Breakout

Breakout

Released2000
An updated remake of the 1976 Arcade classic of the same name, Breakout for the PlayStation dispenses with the simplistic lines and dots of the original game and adds power-ups, 3D interactive worlds, multiple levels (that must be unlocked) and, of course, a storyline. Only the basic objective remains the same: maneuvering a paddle to keep a ball in play so it can ricochet off a wall of bricks (or other items in this case), effectively eliminating the bricks from the playfield.

About This Game

Bouncer is a paddle who lives on an island with his girlfriend Daisy. One day, while Bouncer is at sea rescuing a wayward ball, the villain Batnix arrives, kidnaps Daisy, and scatters Bouncer's friends into jails across the world. Bouncer returns to find himself imprisoned too — chained to a ball. The ball, as it turns out, is friendly and willing to help. By bouncing it against the walls of the cell and smashing through the bricks, both escape. Bouncer must now travel to every jail and free his friends, one at a time. The paddle can be angled or curved to aim the ball precisely; power-ups appear throughout; some levels require hitting targets in a specific sequence, and a few ask the paddle to do things paddles normally don't. Finishing a level earns a ranking, and higher rankings unlock harder versions of earlier stages.
