Long ago, a dragon named Bolgrot descended upon the eternal Province of Amakna, and only the young knight Rykke Errel was brave enough to confront it. Rather than destroying him as it easily could have, the dragon bowed before Rykke and swore him its loyalty. In the months that followed, Rykke met and fell deeply in love with a young enchantress named Helsephine — but when he introduced her to Bolgrot, the dragon flew into a sudden, murderous rage, killing Helsephine and laying waste to everything in its path as it fled.
Rykke pursued Bolgrot to his cave, and the old friends clashed in a titanic battle. With weapon and magic, Rykke brought the dragon down — but, mortally wounded himself, the young hero died soon after. Searching for an explanation for Bolgrot's sudden violence, the wise men of Amakna cut open the dragon and found six strangely colored eggs within, which they named DOFUS. They later learned that when the eggs were brought together their power became absolute — absolute, but dangerously unstable — and so they hid the relics away from the world.
Over the centuries the secret was kept so well that the DOFUS faded entirely from memory. Then, on one cursed day, their guardians discovered the eggs had vanished. Word spread fast, stirring both terror and greed, and adventurers soon flooded into Amakna chasing glory or plunder. From that moment Amakna's fate hung in the balance, the chaos deepened by the arrival of countless creatures as terrifying as they were unknown.
