The single-player campaign centers on a fictional war between NATO and China fought in Kazakhstan. Media on both sides pump out propaganda accusing the enemy of war crimes as the player fights for each nation in turn. When you finally pick a side to lead to victory, the truth emerges: a terrorist organization called Burning Flag engineered the whole conflict, misleading both NATO and China into war, staging the very atrocities each side blamed on the other, and sabotaging the only attempt at peace talks. The victorious side must then stop Burning Flag's leader, Commander 31, from launching three nuclear ICBMs at the United States, Europe, and China — a strike that would leave neither side anything left to fight or live for. In the heat of an intense battle, the launches are halted and Commander 31 is killed, with the player hailed as the hero who secured China's — or NATO's — victory.
