A young princess never expected to rule. Her father is dead and her older brother has vanished, leaving her on the throne whether she is ready or not. At her coronation, several of the twelve provincial leaders make their feelings clear: they do not believe she can lead, and they refuse to pledge loyalty. She has one year to win over enough of them to hold the kingdom together. The tools available include gifts, jousting challenges sent via her knights, and — if subtler methods fail — assassination. She must also keep the economy stable and handle civil unrest as it arises. Romance with the leaders or the knights is available as a parallel pursuit.
