A bitter war between two world superpowers has raged on for decades with armies of beasts and demons devastating the people and the land. With both sides deadlocked, two young heroes rise up to begin a heroic journey to stop the fighting and unite the divided world. As either Toma, a talented sword fighter boy, or Cyrille, a cunning female sorceress, you'll venture into a stunning world of swords and sorcery teeming with a huge variety of tribes. With aggressive offensive and defensive strategies, you'll lead your battle party into combat while protecting your home base, the Geo Fortress, from massive attacks.

Toma wants to be King of the World and doesn't see why that should require modesty in the meantime. His partner Cyrille is a mage who wants the legendary Shining Force blade for reasons she keeps to herself. They're joined almost immediately by Gadfort, a knight who wants the same blade to become the greatest fighter alive, and Maebelle, an elfin archer who needs it to save her people. Shining Force EXA unfolds in a world of perpetual war shared by humans, demons, and beasts, split between the Noswald Empire in the north and the demon-ruled territory of Fyrlandt in the south. The four are united by the blade they're after and divided by everything else.
