When the wealthy Baron Augustus Reinhold passes away, his will reveals a hidden treasure somewhere in the village of St. Mystere. Unable to find it themselves, the baron's family calls in renowned puzzle expert Professor Layton and his apprentice, Luke. But no sooner do the pair arrive than their search is interrupted by the suspicious death of another Reinhold family member. Now with two mysteries on their hands, Layton and Luke must work their way through the village's countless puzzles, riddles, and brainteasers to uncover the truth.
