An American documentary crew ventures into Hanuda, an isolated Japanese village lost to time for decades, seeking to expose the secrets buried in its past. Their investigation takes a horrifying turn when they stumble upon a ritualistic killing, triggering an otherworldly wail that seals the village from the world and transforms its inhabitants into shambling undead horrors known as the shibito. Trapped alongside Howard Wright, an American student drawn to the cursed locale through a cryptic invitation, the survivors find themselves hunted through Hanuda's sprawling network of mountainous terrain, abandoned mines, and decaying structures. To survive, they must exploit a supernatural ability that allows them to glimpse the world through their pursuers' eyes, giving them crucial moments to escape and piece together the sinister connections binding the entire village to this nightmare.
