In the world of Arcadia, life-draining monsters called Thanatos prey on the population and only Purifiers can destroy them. Nyx, a wealthy Purifier who has built an organization dedicated to fighting the Thanatos, identifies Angelique as someone with unusual potential and invites her to join. She declines — she wants to be a doctor. Then her school is attacked, her power activates on its own, and she learns she is the "Queen's Egg," the most powerful purifying force in the world. She joins. She becomes the only female Purifier in existence.
