Ilo and Milo meet every day in an ever-shifting park populated by safkas, utilitarian cubes, and a pompous little man named Sebastian who rides a flying beetle. Each night when they leave, the park rearranges itself. When the two grow too sad to part ways, they cry so hard the next levels flood. When they try drawing maps for each other and throwing them across the park, things get even more confusing. Their final plan: refuse to go home, find the sun, and escape together in a vehicle that is part locomotive, part biplane. Woven beneath the main story, letters exchanged between two humans named Ilona Zevon and Milton Foley tell a quiet, melancholic parallel tale of connection interrupted and finally, desperately resumed—ending in a missing persons report dated November 29. Sebastian also narrates a secondary fable, The Huntsman and the Fox, whose themes of broken promises and consequences mirror everything around them.
