Near the end of March, with the Second Europan War barely underway, Kurt has just been assigned to his new unit in the Gallian Army. He proposes attacking Imperial troops during a rest halt; his commander, skeptical of the plan's chances, hands Kurt full authority and retreats from the front. Against his squadmates' objections, Kurt leads the assault. They win — Gallia's first victory of the war. While the squad celebrates, Kurt remains quiet and detached, further alienating himself from everyone around him.
