Unknown beings called Kotona invaded Earth long ago in search of food, and humanity was powerless against them until some people began manifesting an ability called douryoku. Those who mastered it drove the Kotona away. Now Seiichi attends the elite Kashinomori Academy, which trains douryoku users in case the Kotona return. Despite possessing formidable latent power, he cannot actually use any of it — earning him the school's unofficial title of most useless. Among all the capable students in his class, one girl holds his attention: Akane, who comes from a distinguished family but has only average ability, and who compensates by training harder than anyone else.
