About This Game

Picking up after Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm finds Sarah Kerrigan — newly returned to human form — attacked by Terran Dominion forces at a research facility. She escapes aboard Jim Raynor's flagship, the Hyperion, but Raynor is cut off, and a Dominion broadcast soon claims he has been captured and executed. Enraged and grief-stricken, Kerrigan returns to Zerg space to reclaim control of the Swarm and topple the tyrannical Emperor Arcturus Mengsk. Reuniting broods on the worlds of Char and Kaldir, Kerrigan is visited by the Protoss Zeratul, who urges her to restore her powers on Zerus, the Zerg homeworld. There she learns the dark truth of her kind's origins — that a fallen Xel'Naga named Amon twisted the Zerg into a single warring will — and, by bathing in a primordial spawning pool and absorbing the essences of powerful primal leaders, she is reborn as the primal Queen of Blades, gaining the loyalty of the primal zerg Dehaka. With the aid of the infested Alexei Stukov, she destroys a facility breeding Protoss-Zerg hybrids and slays Amon's servant Narud, who reveals before dying that Amon has been revived. Learning that Raynor is in fact alive and imprisoned, Kerrigan mounts a daring rescue, only for a horrified Raynor to tell her they are finished. Undeterred, she unites the entire Swarm and invades Mengsk's throne world of Korhal, tearing through its defenses. As the final assault reaches the imperial palace, Raynor unexpectedly arrives to fight at her side, and together they breach Mengsk's stronghold. Cornered, Mengsk tries to use a Xel'Naga artifact to destroy Kerrigan, but Raynor intervenes long enough for her to impale and kill the emperor. Her vengeance complete, Kerrigan rejoins her Swarm and turns at last toward the true enemy of all living things — Amon — in a war that will decide the fate of the entire galaxy.
