Deep beneath an ocean surface, the underwater research complex known as the Challenger Deep runs anti-mass spectrometer experiments every day—the hope being that if anything goes wrong, it stays far below the world above. Gordon Freeman has volunteered his expertise to assist. A resonance cascade takes care of the rest: alien creatures pour in, the hull breaches, and floodwater starts rising through every corridor.
