A data recovery mission finds the player aboard an ancient colony ship, sifting through centuries-old records. Among the corrupted files is an AI designated *Mute—a young girl, by the standards she was designed to emulate—who was archived so long ago she has no memory of the society she came from. The logs she carries tell a story the player is not prepared for: how a progressive civilization chose, over the course of one generation, to regress into something resembling Korea's Joseon Dynasty. Hate Plus continues where Analogue: A Hate Story ended, adds a real-world cooking mechanic in which the player must prepare a recipe between play sessions, and asks whether understanding why something happened is the same as forgiving it.
